Infinity Amp Specs and Signal Routing
Greetings, I am new to this forum. I have learned some things here and I would like to say hello and thank you all.
I recently purchased a 1999 Montero Sport Limited in decent shape. I've done some repairs to it, and things are going well so far. I'm still working on touching up the paint, trim etc. to make it look a little nicer, as stock as possible, nothing fancy. That was my plan for the stereo as well. I like music at a somewhat loud volume, but my goal is to have a nice, full and accurate sound inside the car, not for other drivers. I have the Infinty system, and I was okay with how it sounded save some rattling. I will be using Spotify. I have swapped out the deck for a single din JBL unit.
During an alarm install, a local shop noticed the dash speakers cone paper deteriorated, and replaced those with two 4 inch JBL speakers.
In light of this, I went in the other day to replace the remainder of the speakers, and planned later to add a slim powered sub under the seat, so I could take some of the bass output out of the door speakers. We settle on some 3 way JBLs. During the install, the guy in the shop pointed out that the front door woofers were only pushing bass, and upsold me on a more performance loudspeaker. I don't have the box and don't have the brand, it could be cheap junk. I'll visit later and get the box. I wish I could get my money back. He installed the same speaker in the rear door, which receives a full range signal.
After the install, the low end response is weak, to say the least. The old stock deteriorated paper speaker had a much fuller and more pleasant sound. The sound now is very harsh. To get it to sound nearly decent requires aggressive EQ that is probably going to damage my speakers anyway. I told the shop that it sounded like crap, and there was no low end anymore, to which they said I needed to install an amp if I wanted better bass. They basically ignored what my goal was, to match some new speakers to the existing amp. I should have read the bad Yelp reviews.
I hope that story was not to long, but I just wanted to be clear as to what is going on to better illustrate what information I would like. With that being said, I have had a problem finding the specs on the Infinity amp. I should have done this first. Before I replace these speakers, I want to know what signals are going where and at what frequency, wattage, and whatever else is relevant. With that, I can buy speakers that will work better and either install them myself, or at least be able to articulate my concern and show a different installer what we are working with to hopefully come to a better solution.
If anyone can help me out, it would be highly appreciated.
