Default Issues with ‘05/‘06 Montero?

Hi all,

I am looking to buy an ‘05 or ‘06 Montero and am wondering if there are any common problems I should look out for when picking one up? I am relatively new to the Montero community having only briefly owned an ‘01 before it got totaled when I was rear ended by a distracted driver. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Not many changes from '01 to '06 except stability control and other electronic stuff. So any issues are likely be the same as on your previous vehicle - picky about what transmisdion fluid you use, flashing C/D light, etc.

How about the engine reliability? I know the engine displacement has increased from 3.5 to 3.8L. Any noticeable changes?

It's the same engine design with slightly larger displacement. From what I understand, they use stronger pistons and con rods to ensure increased power and torque can be pumped out of the power plant. I wouldn't hesitate about any mitsubishi engine.
