Cool Japanese Import 2000 Pajero (Montero) MMC is in Japanese

So I've just bought a second hand 2000 Pajero or as others know it as a Montero.

It has a pretty nice trip computer and entertainment system, which they call MMC. The only problem is that its in Japanese, and I do not speak nor read Japanese.

So my question is this.

1. Is there a Firmware update that I can patch this system to English.

2. Is there alternative I can install that will pickup and read the information supplied to the trip computer. IE. KM per litre and total distance on tank, etc.

Its really annoying that this cant be put simply into English.

Cheers

No firmware to update as these were only made for the Japanese market. Later versions (ie 2006+) have a HDD and there is a software patch to convert into English along with other upgrades. Search through the forum as there is loads of info on the subject.

I am so totally lost.
I don't even know where to begin.

I am willing to pay, but I just want a trip computer/entertainment system in English.

Thanks Japan ;P

I owned a 97 Pajero with one of the first MMCS which was in japanese. It worked quite well and I found a way to navigate around teh screens. Granted having in English is better but you can't get another system which will intergrate into your vehicle like the MMCS does. It's worth trying to find a compromise.

BTW where are you located? Maybe be able to point you in right direction depending on location.

I flicked him an email with link to thread but I know he is either away on holiday or just returned to a pile of work. Give it a week and I'm sure you will have an answer.

Contacted my friend and he pointed me to this service. Probably your best bet although I do not see your specific model & year on the list for English conversion.

ITEXNZ Wellington - Products and Services - Car Audio - MMCS Start CD

He sells te CD's through TM site as well. May be best place to ask a question unless you contact him directly.

Hope it helps.
