Talking Looking for help with the speedometer

I have a 2003 Montero Limited that I have been working on for a while. I recently pulled the instrument panel out to replace some burnt out bulbs, and when I put it back together I noticed the speedometer was not working. I thought maybe it was not connected property, so I pulled it out again checking the connections and making sure I had installed the mother board back in correctly also. Everything is working as it should except the speedometer. It is doing nothing now after pulling it back out. When I first noticed it while driving the needle was just jumping around slower then what I was actually driving. I have looked online to see if there is a reset or perhaps the speedometer needs to be calibrated after pulling it out. Any help or suggestions that you might could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Mhaley75.......I have a similar issue with my 94 Montero. The speedometer needle does not register until I am cruising down the highway at 60mph, and then after a while it will just pop up and start working, and it registers the correct speed. But once I come to a stop, it then "sticks" again, and will not register until I am going down the highway. Are these pretty easy to open up and lube? Or do you think it is the electronic sending unit that is failing?

If you find the answer, let us know.

I had a problem with the speedo not working in my 2002 Montero Sport.

Turns out was wire damage in the engine bay, I assume mouse related. Attached are pictures as found, opening up of loom to repair, and final repair. Speedo working fine ever since. Hopefully helps.

larry44.......Great pics and advice. Darn knarley ratzzzzz! At least your fix was easy to get to, and the chewed wire was not hidden way up under somplace. Maybe I just need to pull the connection and look for corrosion....a proper cleaning might help my case.
