Hey, sorry i cant help, but I have a 2008 model with the same problem and looking for the solution as well. But it is not just about blinking, my car does not switch back to 2H. The differential lock is always on, in any case, and keeps on 4WH. I'm afraid it is a transmission issue.

Hi I have a 2006 Mitsubishi Montero Jeep. After I drive about 20 - 40 km The CENTER DIFFERENTIAL LOCK LIGHT starts flashing yellow. This prevents being able to change 2 to 4 wheel drive. After the car is turned off and restarted the light goes back to normal. I've preformed all the transmission service, flushes etc. My mechanic says I need to replace the 4 or 5 sensors on the transfer case. But isn't 100% sure if this will fix the problem or not. The car has 120,000 km on it. PLEASE HELP WITH ANY SUGGESTIONS ON THE FLASHING LIGHT

The issue with the flashing center differential light is not related to transmission. It is an issue with the transfer case (which is bolted to the back of transmission). Servicing transmission will not solve those issues. Most often the problem is with the sensors not reporting correctly to the transmission/transfer control module. The module "detects" a mismatch of the data coming in vs. what it is expecting and throws out the warning - flashing orange light. It could be just single bad sensor (out of 5) but it may be difficult to pin point which one has gone bad. A mechanic should be able to pull the error codes from the transfer ECU (just as you do with Check Engine Codes). The code will tell which of the sensors is malfunctioning. If they do not have tools to connect to transfer ECU, there is a way to ground a pin on the computer interface plug and make the orange light flash out the pattern to indicate the error code.
