Thumbs up Onfair headrest LCD monitors w/dvd on the Montero pics videos & review

I've been fixing up my Montero and put a full sound system in there: component speakers up front, coaxials in the rear, 4channel amp to power the speakers, 12" subwoofer and another amp to power it, double din stereo with screen/dvd etc. Basically no more stock crap in play.

If you do a search you will see my many post regarding audio in the Montero, there seemed to be none til I got in, so hopefully those and this post will help other owners who want to make their ride even better.

After a recent long drive with passengers, I've been contemplating if I should put headrest LCDs. Well I just jumped in and got it.

First lets show you the pictures..

Wait is this the wrong picture? Nope its not.. These are stealth approved so when not in use like they are not there..

They are not real leather, but synthetic. Flows well with the vehicle, not as shiny as our seats, but unless you look hard or take a picture with flash as you see in the last picture, it is hardly noticible.

Each headrest has its own DVD player with Sony laser. So I have the dvd player up front and the video output from there to the input of the LCD headrests. However, if the people in the back want to watch their own movie, they can do so. There are also built in speakers. Also IR headphones are included, so people can listen to the DVD they are playing while the people up front watch their own. If your main deck has a separate audio output for rear section (meaning you can separate what the front and rear listen to) the LCD headrest also has audio input which will also transmit to the included IR headphones.

There is a USB slot, and SD card slot for those type of media. It plays mp3s, dvix, etc.

The poles adjust, and adjust fine to our vehicles.

The only problem is the tabs do not stick to whre you raise the headrest up. It will just slide back down. It's not a problem as the headrest are tall enough at its lowest position to support most heads.

The screen is 7" widescreen.

It also includes games! There is a disc of 1000 games, from classics like Mario, etc. Most nintendo games, and a few generic 32bit games. It comes with 2 wireless game controllers and 2 hybrid remote/game controllers (the remote controller turns sideways and acts as a game controller)

As for the install, I did everything myself and I'm use to installing these things so it was fairly straight forward. I ran the wires down the seats, you wont see any wires running.

I'll add more on the review.

Here is part 2

This shows the built in gaming capabilities of the unit.

Here is the headunit i have installed

I've completely wired the vehicle

only amps that would fit under the 2 powered seats that actually have decent power are the XM1S and XM4S from sony. The 4 channel amp has 50w x 4 RMS @ 4ohms and the matching 1 channel amp has a nice 500w x 1 RMS @ 2ohm load.

The amps have nice blue LEDs on one end, and I've positioned them to point to the 2nd row, so at night there is a nice dim blue light emitting from under the seat. Very nice, not so bright to where its tacky.

All the interior lights have also been changed to LEDs.

In the future I will probably make the stock amp and stock 8" midbass woofer back in play. I have a subwoofer, but just in case I need more storage space (its hidden in cubby where the 3rd row folds into) I can take it out, but then the bass would be lacking. I dont like to always have the stock woofer in play while the sub is there because it just ruins the soundfield IMO (I had it setup like that before). But without the main sub, its nice to still have some low end to the setup. I'll incorporate a switch that will be installed next to where the rear air and heated seat switches are. So with a flick of a switch the stock amp and woofer can be turned on and off.

Turbo, nice job, I like the cover-up feature for security. It's so easy to pull the headrests out and have the screens. It's always on my mind when I'm downtown with mine.

Looks great... have you got the facility to put a Wii back there?

If you are talking about inputs, yes I do, they are located in the glove box.

You have the more standalone type of install.

The inputs of the headrest monitors are being used and being fed video and audio ouput from my dvd stereo/deck.

so if the passengers what to experience not just stereo sound, but properly decoded digital sound they can enjoy it, or they can use the IR headphones and listen in private. or they can use the built in dvd player and play their own discs.

The simple setup is not tying in the aftermarket deck at all, like most setups, but I wanted to take it to the next level.

Good stuff. Yeah I have the IR set up for the headphones or I can run it thru the stock radio for all to listen.

I have the auxiliary plugs for gaming systems situated under the rear air controls on the back of the centre console. That just means the front seat passengers don't have to be involved in the "changing mood" of the rear seats as they rifle thru their volley of crap to keep themselves entertained!

Looks good mate, nice one!

Really good installation, but it seems like the color of the headrest dvd is a little different with the headrest. These days, I'm looking for headrest car dvd for my Ford.
I find this 7 inch Digital Car Headrest DVD Player with USB/SD/GAME/IR/FM transmitter from justcardvd. Here is the specification. Need your advice. Is that OK to buy?
