Default Ques.

Im on the verge of buying a 2002 Montero Sport XLS 2wd with 121k Miles for 5K. I was wondering the reliability of this vehicle and if you think its a go to me to buy. Any major problems I should be aware of with this vehicle.

I own a 2002 Montero Sport Limited 2WD with 204,000 miles and I wouldn't say that it's unreliable. The only time I have ever been stuck somewhere was when the battery failed, I had noticed that it wasn't starting as fast as usual but I ignored it so I blame myself.

I've had 0 major problems but I've had minor repairs along the way to get to this mileage. Today I had the fan clutch replaced because it was no longer changing fan speed. I've had the valve cover gaskets replaced at 150,000 miles because I noticed minor oil leaks around them. Oh yeah and I replaced 2 O2 sensors a few years back but it was so easy that I just ordered them and installed them myself.
