Default Replace brake light on 2004 Montero Sport

Hi,
The left rear brake light on my 2004 Montero Sport isn't working and I tried to replace the bulb but can't figure out how to take the light cover off. I removed the 2 screws from the tail gate side and was able to pull the whole light assembly out can't actually get to the bulb itself to replace it. I saw 2 tabs on the top and bottom that appear to hold the front cover on but pushing them with a flat head screwdriver doesn't seem to work. I didn't try very hard though because I didn't want to break it. Is that the way to do it or is there some other technique?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Once you remove the 2 screws, you need to pull the whole tail lamp assembly rearward. If you wedge a plastic pry tool at the side of the tail lamp (where the tabs are) and gently pry the lamp so it moves rearwards, it will pop out of the tabs allowing you full access. I usually pull the lamp to the rear by placing both of my dry hands flat on the lens and pull it back. The grip of my dry hands is usually enough to hold the lens as i pull it rearwards. If it's stubborn- i'll go with a pry tool as explained above.
