Service engine soon light ON...
Thanks for the background. And yes, I'm pushing around a venerable 1995 model and thinking without thinking that everything else around here is driving something just as old.
Reading your link got me thinking, though. I'd never really thought about buying a scanner before, being, like I said, more or less rooted in the past, but now I'm seriously considering it and can see where pinpointing any future FUBARS could pay for itself in time and frustration spent alone.
I'd just a soon not disconnect the battery unless it's to clean the dang terminals.

Kennito, I was reading about oxygen sensors on the Internet the other day and in that case they replaced both oxygen sensors and then drove around for a bit expecting the check engine light to go out. When it didn't they did a bit more checking and found a loose ground wire that was fooling the computer module into thinking that the problem hadn't been fixed when it had been. On regrounding the offending wire, the light then went out. Sorry, I don't remember the exact year of the vehicle (pretty sure it was a Saturn), but it goes to show you not to ignore a seemingly unrelated problem when looking to solve these mechanical puzzles.
Were you able to get the proper code to isolate your problem, or find out why your light continues to shine?
