Default Skid plates for 03-06

Do the 06 Monteroes come with a factory skidplate that covers the transfer case? I know my 03 doesn't, but I've heard later models did..........

You can look under one at the local dealerships.

I know the Gen I's and Gen II's and Gen 2.5's come with transfer case skid plates.

I tried, but none of the 3 Mitsu dealers near me even have any Monteros left. I'd prefer to get one aftermarket, but I can't find anyone that makes 'em.

One ***** SERVICE MANAGER tried to tell me that some full size Monteros were made with just 2 wd. I just thought I'd stop in and see if there were any in for service or if the Service Manager knew off hand...........

What dealership was that? He was probably confusing your Montero with the Montero Sports. Sports did have some 2 wd versions available which was a surprise to me when i learned that.

Nobody in N. America will make those as a standard product. You can probably get a local decent fabricator to make a set up for you. That's what I did when I upgraded my original transfer case skid plate to one made using 1/4" steel plate. The skid plate is no longer an issue but the skid plate mounts are bending now.[&:]

actually, it would be the 01-06 monteros.
they do have front end skid plates (one steel, one plastic), but nothing else.

I don't even call those things on the front, skid plates....... more like Splash Guards. I need one like my Jeep had, that is made out of thick enough metal to support the weight of the vehicle, or can at least take a good hit by a large rock.

LOL, I wouldn't compare a stock Gen I/II Montero to a stock Jeep (TJ, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee). But then again, I guess that's why they say jeeps are built, and not bought.

I agree with you though that those are splash guards more than they are skid plates. Any skidding with those and you'll be on your oil pan, etc. in a heartbeat.

Did I do any comparisons to the vehicle, or did I just reference the Skid plate?
