Hi people.
I have a problem with transfer system on Montero Limited 2002. Aftre last off road my transfer case in not working. Front and rear wheel lights go out and central differencial lock light is blinking. The situation. I am tried to switch from 4LLc to 4HLc on nuetral position but lights continued blinking I am driven some time keep wheel in straight position but it doesn't help. I stoped and turn engine off. Few minutes latter a start engine and light showing that transfer case switch to 4HLc position but when I tried to switch to 4H central differential start blinking and after some time front and rear wheel lights go out.
Is any body know what possible problem and what is your expectation of the repearing cost?

I had a problem with my transfer not locking and the front 4WD lights blinking. The tec told me that when the transfer was not used for long periods of time the switch on the transfer may not make proper contact. He said this switch was very hard to get to, but to shift in and out of 4WD about 50 times or so , then do it some more. I have a 2002 montero XLS andI did this and it worked. Now I shift into 4WD at least once per week. I have not had a problem since. Hope this helps.

I just encountered the same problem withmy 01 Montero. The swapped out the switch and said they are still having the problem. The strange thing is that I had just gotten it back from the dealer whe I dropped it off no blinking lights, when I picked it up blinking lights, Strange coincidence I wonder.. Anyone know of any other reasons for this problem?

 

I'm a mechanic andI have a 97 montero sport which i love and i've had in pieces and back together again. I asume the later years are the same but i've had similar problems a coulple of times. I found the 4wd light on mine blinks when the front axle and the transfer case arent on the same page like if my transfer case is in 4wd and my front axle has a hard time engaging. The only time i ever had problems after 4 wheeling was when i went thru a lot of water. The relay that actuates the front axle got when and my front axle would randomly engage going down the road in 2wd but after bout a week the problem went away. mine isn't all wheel drive but maybe this helped
