I had the same problem with my 08 ES and the dealer replaced the cowl at my 3 month oil change. The new cowl stayed in place on the passenger side for a few weeks, but now it has the gap just like the original one. I think the cowl is too short (design defect) and even if you force it back in on the passenger side it eventually pops back out again from road vibrations or even touching it while you're washing the car.

I thought it was just my Outlander with this problem. I'm "glad" to know it's not. By the way, if you look very carefully, you'll notice the gap between the fender and the hood is wider on the passenger side than on the driver side. I think that's why the cowl doesn't fit right.
