Default '07 XLS Automatic Air Conditioning

First time poster...Been reading through the user guide, but not finding it overly intuitive. I have an '07 Outlander XLS, and loving it, but I would like to better understand how the auto air conditioning works. If I set it to Auto, can I expect the A/C to turn on and off to maintain the temperature that I have selected. So far it just seems to stay on until I turn it off. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I havent really tried it yet. Its probly made to stay on until the temp. you are demanding is met. If you have it cranked to the lowest setting then I bet the AC wont turn off too often. If you set it to like 75 im sure it will slow down and speed up.

the AC is on always in "Auto" mode, like on every car on the planet.
its purpose is NOT just to cool the air. It "conditions" the air.

set it on "auto", select a temp, and go. It will get the cabin to that temp with dehumidified air as soon as it can .

Too funny.. I was wondering how it works as well today, but it was only in town a few minutes..maybe I'll play more on my trip home this weekend. I did notice that it puts out some seriously cold air pretty quickly!

When I use the air conditoner on hot days, I sometimes notice a small pool of water under the car (at least it appears to be water and not coolant or other bodily fluids). I'm assuming that this is condensationcaused bythe air conditioner and is nothing to be concerned about. (It's the first car I've ever owned that had air conditioning, so I'm not sure what to expect). Is this normal?

If you set the climate control to full auto mode (by pressing the "auto"), the air conditioning will take priority over idle stop. This means that if it is hot enough for the air conditioning, idle stop won't occur, but instead the engine will continue to run to power the A/C compressor.

one more time for everyone.

turning the system to "auto" will ALWAYS run the AC, as its purpose is not just to cool the car. Even when its 40 degrees outside, the AC is on to dehumidify the air.
the heater core will then warm up the now dry air. So you have "conditioned" air.
this is the way it is on every car on the planet.. Some only turn it on during "defrost", but most turn it on all the time.
