Exclamation 2007 Out XLS S.M.A.R.T. key alternatives

Has any one found an alternative to to buying the Factory SMART key fob.
I will just use the emergency key forever, before I replace the system with an Sh-aftermarket system. (although auto start would be nice)
Will one from a later 2G Outlander work? or another 2007 Mitsubishi vehicle. I don't care if it does not looks the same I want functionality.

I am down to my last original and it is eating a battery ever 3 weeks, the other one eats one battery a day.
If you keep them in batteries they both still work.
Never driven an Outlander? you are missing out!

is it possible that you have some corrosion going on in the key fobs? any resistance between a battery source and it's intended circuitry would cause a drain? or possible that when you reassemble the key that it's hold one of the buttons in a depressed state? I do know that they changed designs pretty quickly as far as shape, but you'd have to do some serious googling of part #'s to see if the actual system is different

Everything looks clean and dry inside there is no obvious corrosion. I have done a bunch of google searches there are some "keys" that broadcast on the same freq. but did not want to be the first to try it. figured someone in the forum did it already.
