My 2007 Outie has 79,000 km's.

Service (dealership) told me today that I have a power steering pressure hose leak.

They quoted me $618.60 (CANADIAN) just for the part alone.

Question to others that may have replaced this hose: Is this what it cost you??

Does anybody recommend (or have used) any less expensive after market hoses??

 

Lots of after market stuff around. I made a carreer of selling aftermarket auto parts.

Got CarQuest,Napa, Auto Zone? Give them a call. But use Mitsu PS fluid.

I've never used a Mitsu PS hose, but the parts are made to OE specs (for the mjost part). Some better, some not.

 

nothing special about Mitsu PS fluid. I've had two dealerships tell me that. One didn't even use PS fluid, they used ATF.

However, I think No5 might be SOL. I tried looking at Advance, NAPA, O'Reilly's, and RockAuto....none have that hose for sale. How hard is it to replace? Mine started leaking as well. I'm having a hard time seeing where it's running since it disappears behind the intake.

 

Not sure as I actually never replaced the hose (since I originally posted a year ago!).

After posting, I had a non-dealership mechanic provide me a second opinion. He said the hose was sweating a bit at the end, but not leaking. Since then (last year), my fluid levels have not dropped and garage floor completely fluid free (plus engine bay).

I continue to watch but the dealership initially red-flagged this issue as severe, and a year later, the hose is still working fine.

 

Mines been like that for 2 years. I have lifetime oil changes with the dealer and they didn't bother to mention it until after warranty. Kept forgetting to tell them the last two changes. I just did a 20 hour trip and the reservoir is still full. I'm gonna monitor it until it gets worse I guess.

 

I've got a 2008 Outlander XLS with 146k kms on it. The PS hose pressure side just started "sweating" from a joint where metal meets rubber. Not enough to even drip on the floor and the resevoir remains full. Anyone ever had one of these start leaking badly and leave you stranded?

 

Getting close to 3 years since I last posted, and that makes it about 5 years since it started leaking. I'm over 160k now and it hasn't left me stranded yet. I do always check the PS fluid level when I do an oil change just to make sure.

The only thing that bothers me is that it slowly gunks up the outside of the inner CV axle boot but I just wipe it down whenever I'm in that area.

 

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to leave it and see how it goes. I might try something like this take to stop the build up.

LeakSeal® Self-Fusing Tape

 

Self fusing tape is awesome. Don't bother with any internal stop leak fluids. I tried this and when the temperature dropped in the fall I could barely turn my wheel. I ended up flushing everything twice with expensive Mitsu PS fluid to get the rack moving smoothly again.
