Default 2007 Outlander U-haul hitch installation

Hi guys,

I've owned my '07 Outlander 3.0 AWD for 10 years. I'm finally ready to have a hitch installed on it.

I am planning to have U-haul install the hitch. Should I look into buying the hitch somewhere else before bringing the vehicle over for the installation, or should I go with what they recommend/sell?

I've never had a hitch installed on anything, so I'm a bit of a newbie here regarding this.

My main purpose is for towing a small trailer for things like mulch or other outdoor projects. The other thing is I have two motorcycles, combined weight for them both would be about 675 lbs. So, even with the trailer weight, everything is well under the 2000-3500 lb towing capacity. I'll likely just rent a trailer from U-haul as I need it, as I don't have a good place to store one at the moment.

My final question is, have you guys installed a transmission cooler as well?

Thanks for any help!

Joe

Your '07 will already have a transmission cooler. it is located just in front of the driver's side front wheel. You can see it by looking through an opening near the fog light bezel.

I grabbed a curt hitch off of amazon. I found the part number off of e-trailer.com and ordered it off amazon...think it was about $135. You'll also need a wiring harness module, another $80 that is relatively easy to install. it is a medium difficulty installing it. By now, the mounting holes are rusted and will have crud in them...someone will definitely have to clean the threads out with a tap set. Also, the rubber hanger for the muffler is very stretchy....don't worry about going nuts on it...and have some soapy water on hand!

If you don't feel like installing it, you might want to call around some independent local shops or even mobile mechanics to see if they'll install the stuff for you.

I don't have much room for a trailer either. I did get one of those cargo trays for $60. And it works well.

Edit, I just moved a year ago and installed my hitch so the outlander could help out as much as possible. I ended up stuffing the Outlander completely full inside, throwing a bit on the roof, then put a 5x10 uhaul trailer also stuffed full behind it. She sat pretty low, but she did very well.

Default Curt Hitches....

Are the best. I've put them on both my cars and the Outlander was directly bolted into existing holes. You do have to remove the muffler from the hanger and that was a real pain, but the hitch install itself was pretty simple.
