Default 2010 Outlander fuel consumption

Hi,

I am new to the forums. I am looking at replacing my Dodge Magnum with something that is versatile and doesn't use as much gas as the Magnum. After months of searching and several alternatives, I am thinking that the 2010 Mitsu Outlander might fit the bill.

I am looking at something that is decent on gas and fun to drive, with plenty of space for when family is visiting. I haven't looked at CUV as most of them drive like trucks and I am looking for a car. The ones that do drive like cars, i.e. the Acuras and the Infinitys, are pigs on gas. A friend of mine has an older Outlander, and said that he liked it and hasn't had any issue with it, so I started researching the Outlander. I don't like the 2009 and before, but I do like the 2010. My friend also said that his wasn't too good on gas, but when I look at the posted figures for the 2010, it isn't too bad. Not as good as other options that I am looking at, but the total package might be better.

I guess my question is: for all the folks with 2010 Outlander XLS, what sort of fuel consumption are you seeing? Pretty close to the advertised one or fairly different? For anybody living in Canada, how's the mileage affected by the cold temps? The Magnum is brutal in the winter, so I want to see if it is the same. I am expecting some difference, but not as bad as with the Magnum: 13 l/100kms in the summer, 15.5 l/100kms in the winter for city driving.

I also wanted to mention that I have searched the forums, and all I have found were for older Outlander, like 2007, so not really applicable to the 2010, unless it hasn't changed.

Thanks a lot in advance.

There is a thread that discusses the 2010 Outlander XLS titled "2010 outlander XLS 4WD vs Toyota LTD V6 4WD" a few lines below this one. The Outlander does drive like a car, at least to me, and the 2010 XLS w/S-AWC does 66.2 mph in slalom tests...that beats sedans like the Mercedes C class...along with any Acura SUV (RDX, MDX). It has really good steering and road feel for a CUV as well.
As for gas consumption, I get around 11.8 L/100km for 100% city driving on my 08 V6. I don't floor it or anything, and accelerate quite slowly. Since the 2010 uses premium and has improved fuel efficiency, it would be less for similar driving. No clue about how it would be in the cold weather though....coldest I had it at was -2*C.

Hi Ivanz,

I have read the thread that you mention at length and that and other info that I have found on the web have convinced me that the Outlander drives and handles like a car.

Thanks for the info on the gas consumption, it really helps.

My one year average (Oct 2008-Oct 2009) was 11.4L/100km, including all sort of driving conditions in Canadian weather (Toronto), 4WD Auto all the time and no eco-driving; this is for a 2007 Outlander (V6).

Default pretty much the same

out in Calgary. Right around 10l/100km in the summer and 13 or so in the winter (temperature dependent). I think the worst case was a bunch of short trips at -25C to -35C. Came close to 20l/100km for those. I can easily get 8.5 to 9l/100km on the highway in the summer.

Thanks a lot for the response dodo2 and tcp. It really helps me get an idea of what the true mileage is.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

2009 V6 XLS using regular gas

Winter - riding on snow tires: High 12's low 13's L/100km combined during that cold snap in December.
Went ice fishing last week and got 9.9 highway.

Fall/Summer on the stock wheels I get in the high 10's for combined depending how I drive.

hi guys, I am wondering if you switch to 2 wheel drive on your V6, how is the fuel consumption? I am thinking to get an used 4 cylinder AWD to save gas, I test drove the 2010 4 cylinder and I feel the power is adequate. What are you guys opinions?

Thank you so much!

3 years average 14L/100km in GTA on 07 V6. 4WD Auto + 4W lock occasionally. Worse than expected.
