You should not run below 1/4 tank, fuel pump is in tank and the gas keeps pump from overheating. I now have 2500kms and averaging 40 mpg(imperial gal..4.55L)..This travelling 55 to 65 mph between revelstoke and golden ..in the mountains? Like nesser said, calculate mpg hand.

I'm confused because all I have read on the car says it has a 16.6-15.6 gallon tank. Has anyone else noticed the same thing???
Your average is also the stop and go traffic, which kills it.

I'm glad to report that my Outlander Sport has been consistently giving better gas mileage lately. I put on 1800 miles in the last 15 days, and my best tank gave me 27.75 mpg (85% highway, 15% city). This was driving up and down a very big mountain, half the trip at about 30 to 40 mph speed. My latest fill up netted me 27mpg, on some more VERY hilly roads (half the time in 4wd mode) with a lot of uphill climbs (.

I now have around 3600 miles on the vehicle. I think it could easily meet the EPA estimate of 29mpg on less hilly terrain. On city/freeway drives where the computer used to show 22-23 initially, I now see 25 to 26mpg. The highest I've seen on the computer so far is 28.3 when I was going downhill. The computer does underestimate the average by around 1mpg.

In fact, the lowest mpg on a tank I've seen in the last month is 25 in about 60% freeway/40% city driving (calculated mpg by dividing total miles driven by gallons that I put in at the pump, not the trip-computer indicated mpg).

I'm feeling pretty happy with my Outlander Sport's gas mileage right now. I'm hoping it improves a little more over time, but even if it doesn't, I could live with 1mpg below EPA estimates in this hilly area. And I haven't been "babying" the throttle lately like I did in the past, I push it a lot harder than I used to back when I got the car.

My dealership wants me to bring my car in for testing. I will post the results they find. I am no where near advertised mileage, getting between 10-14L/ 100K on the highway!!! I now have about 6K on the vehicle, driving mostly highway and some city, no bumper to bumper traffic though. Driving only in 2WD and not using sport mode. And no I don't have 1000lbs in the trunk!

Wesstons, let us know how it goes! I have noticed that I get better gas mileage if I use cruise control, even if it's for short stints. The same hill will show better values at the same speed when using cruise vs me manually pressing the pedal.

Post Bad Mileage TOO!!!!!!!!

I am in the same boat. I purchaced the sport for a number of reasons and there has been on two that seemed to work! One of the thing that work and work great is the Bluetooth. The other is the AWD. Other than that nothing else does what Mitsubishi said it would do. GAS MILEAGE....I THINK NOT! My sticker said 25 city 31 HWY. I just got back form a 2000 mile drive cross crounty. Best was 23.7 and worst was 19.9. All hwy driving and doing the speed limit. I called the dealer today here in Atlanta and was told there was nothing they could do. Another reason I purchaced the CUV was it compatible with the ipod. That does not work! Again the dealer said there was nothing they could do. THe navigation maps are from 2008...last time I checked this is 2011. I mean come on when you spend this much money the @#!& should work! With all that said I am working hard to get an answer from Mitsubishi.

I just did a 500km trip and got decent mileage. Pretty much all highway except for a few stops.

With 4 Adults and A/C on, i got 8.8L/100km which is decent. I'm sure I can get better with less people and the AC off. (This is calculating the mileage manually by L filled / km traveled, not using the computer reading)

Our RVR now has over 4,000km and the mileage seems to be getting better and there being less engine noise (or I'm just getting used to it).

My wife recently came home from work and when I checked it said 8.0L/100km and her drive is all city roads.

Default Dealership Test

Well the results are in... I went to the dealership and they drove 47KM in the car on a perfectly flat stretch of highway without stopping, doing 70KPH and guess what??? The car got excellent economy. Since then we've put another 40K on it in the small city (very small) we live in and it's already back to 11+ and this is with me driving as nicely as I can without getting flipped off for accelerating like I got all the time in the world. They told me to keep track which I will be doing. On another note I did an oil change and it was black as black could be after 5000K so maybe now that all the cleaners and solvents and machining stuff is washed out my econmoy will improve? My Ipod doesn't work either and that high pitched noise is still there. They claim city economy of 8.4 and I'm up in the 11+ so that's not too cool? I'll continue to post my economy. We don't drive too much so it will take sometime in between posts. Cheers.

I'm pretty sure it is your driving style or habits. Everything needs to be ideal to get the advertised mileage. You need to accelerate a certain way, stay at a constant speed. Let off the gas and coast alot to red lights. A/C off. Not have any weight in the car.
