Default 2nd Gen 2009 2.4l Outlander Timing Belt change

Hey I am new to the forums and I did some searching before registering and posting, couldnt quite find the answer I was looking for. I recently purchased a 2009 Outlander with 115k miles on the clock, the dealer did not have the prior maintenance on it, so I was wondering how difficult is it to do a Timing belt/water pump on the 4B12 2.4 L DOHC MIVEC I4 Engine. I've tried looking on youtube, but I was only able to find videos on older 2.4 engines and 3.0.

I thought the 2.4L had a timing chain??? Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

But if it's a timing chain, you don't need to mess with it unless it's making noise or something. It's supposed to last the life of the engine, same as modern water pumps.

I've read in multiple locations and received advice not to replace the water pump unless it shows outward signs of failure. They are supposed to be engineered for the "lifetime" of the vehicle.

My 2013 has a timing chain - but I know other years had timing belts - I don't know which ones. This is not a mistake you want to overlook. Good luck!
