Jeez, is that how much it's going to cost when one of my HID lamps burns out?

oem 4300k ones (philips bulb# 85126) would be cheaper.... usually between $80-$120 ...(estimate only) ..... generic ones would be $50 or less....

The owners manual seems to suggest that replacing the HID lamps is a dealer task because of the high voltage, or something like that. It gives directions for replacing the halogen bulbs, but not the xenons. Can I do it myself?

these lights are way better and whiter than the OEM ones ... and way better than the cheap knock-offs that are being sold on Ebay

yep, and there ARE Philips bulbs on Ebay that are cheaper. Just need to lower your price.... but I would throw out there that if any one is wanting to upgrade their stock HID setup, go with bulbs like these. Dont get $20-40 cheap chinese ones. IMO
