Apple carplay or android auto for 2016 outlander?

I've heard they are developing integration for soon to be released cars, but I wasn't aware they would somehow retrofit Outlanders already in the wild. Have you heard something about a firmware update?

I have a 2016 with MMCS and Nav. I'm hoping that they offer an update to include it. I read that 2016 Pajero has it and 2017 Mirage will have it.
Mitsubishi is working hard to bill the Outlander as their "flagship" vehicle (certainly can be the highest price). Why wouldn't they offer it there first??
I paid close to 40K for my Outlander and I can get the new features on a 16K 2017 Mirage?? Come on Mitsubishi- wake up!!!

Looks like a new head unit is needed. Seems like they have gone thru a lot of head unit changes over the years. Isn't the one for 2016 new?
I'm more interested in lane change assist than car play. It just doesn't seem to offer much value at this point.

It's a different head unit. Here is the upgraded head unit in a 2016: 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto - YouTube
Too bad they are not actually selling it in the 2016 models. Seems like it's worth waiting for the 2017 model if you can.

Bottom line is the head units run on some version of Linux. Wouldn't be that difficult in the grand scheme to offer a software upgrade that includes car play and Android auto. Third party units are already doing just that. Wouldn't surprise me if Google and/or Apple jumped in on the development to get more exposure.

I moved up from the 14 to the 16 for the 100 new features. Guess I should have waited a a few months and gotten 101.

Unless they add put a evo engine and dual clutch or cvt that can handle the power, I'll be holding onto the 2016 for a long time. At least it has Bluetooth.

Sure paid a lot extra for the touring package with the bulk of the cost being the navigation. Would be cool if it's some how upgradable. Doubt a free map upgrade will add the feature lol

If the goal is to sell more cars in the US as I keep hearing perhaps they should be paying attention to what their competitors are doing.

Overall I am very happy with the 16 SEL. You are so right- the Touring package is steep. I just wish Mitsubishi was a little more competitive with the electronics. Friends have a Hyundai that was almost 1/2 the cost of my Outlander that reads and sends text messages thru their phone. Won't even mention Ford Sync and Toyota Entune runs circles around Mitsubishi.
