Hi I’ve just acquired a 2.4 cvt outlander and I’m not sure when the cvt fluid was last changed. It’s only had 1 owner since new and been fully serviced so far. Last one at 90k
Now at 105k. I’ve just had the belts and filters done and was thinking of doing the cvt myself.
dealer wants a fortune. I’ve seen many oils that are cvt j1 to j4 compliant. 12 litres for about £60.
any recommended brands from any members? And do i need a new filter?

want to keep it running nice. Last car was a Honda CR-V and I got to 200k in that
thanks. Adam

the oil will be either J1 or J4. It will say on trans dipstick which one you need. The number is not better the higher it gets, J3 for instance isfor the V6 auto and diesel auto.
A typical drain will use 3.5 litres, and Here in australia we are advised by MMAL to drain and refill, then run, and drain and refill again, so 7 litres

Nice content. Wondering if we can use ATF extraction pump and suck fluid from the dipstick hole? Is it going to drain the pan only? Thanks.

Try it and please report back how much fluid you get out. I, for one, would like to know.

Sure. Mine is not yet for changing though. I think that if the dipstick goes into the pan then those extraction pumps would suck at best what you can taka out from the pan plug.

i got used 2016 GT. its done about 110 miles. guy who sold it to me that transmission fluid was changed and it was OEM.

for my piece of mind, i want to change. Should i do OEM ? or Valvoline ATF max ? anyone have experience with the later ?

this seems cost effective compared to OEM / AMS

In mine (Outlander 2014 2.2 Diesel with W6AJA 6A/T gearbox). i used Liqui Moly ATF Top Tec 1200. I know another user on the forum that used this ATF. The OE for this gearbox is Mitsubishi ATF-J3.
