Default Aux/RCA Input Question

I want to use the Auxiliary input, but I see that on the rear of the arm rest are two RCA (White and Yellow) connectors.

I've never seen this before, to use the common 3.5 mm male connectors (to any Ipod for example) would this be needed?

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

Will that work? Is there something better or is that all I need?

Also why does the Outlander have the two RCA connectors, most vehicles I see just have the standard 3.5 mm plugs.

yellow is generally video, white is generally mono channel audio.

you can get something like this:
http://www.cablestogo.com/product.as...=118&sku=03195
then use a regular patch cabel between the ipod and the armrest...

Edit: I guess it's just the White and Red connections not the yellow and white as I wrote before.

With that in mind, would the aforementioned cable/wiring (in the link) work just fine?

Any 3.5mm to RCA cable will work. Even from Dollarama.

if they are red & white, what you had up there will work.

Depends on the option/country. I believe all Canadian Outlanders came with AUX in for example (at least in 08).
Removing the radio takes 5 minutes on the Outlander, way easier than most cars. I love how modular and easy to tear down the interior is.

There's an input behind the radio? That would be more convenient than going behind the armrest, is it as simple as removing the radio head unit and plugging in?

Or would I need to purchase something else?

Yes, there are many inputs behind the radio (like RES, Satellite Radio, etc). There is a place to plug in an AUX cable. You just need the right and left wire, and a grounding wire to enable AUX. You can buy the part on eBay for cheap.

this comment doesn't help anyone but i just bought a used 2011 outlander sport se and someone put an aftermarket "tablet" in place of the infotainment center. The odd thing is in my center console I have a 2nd cigarette lighter port, and 3.5mm auxiliary port and i also have the RCA ports. I just found that a little strange.
