I'm not worried about the color, it the shape of the housing, that I'm concerned about, the outside light will be much more recessed than the inner ones.

Correct, ths is partiallyan issue because being in a reflector recessed as such can cause different intensitys and focus. But naturally if you are doing this project with a Stop/Tail function its not that difficult to correct.
