The best system will cost the most. Go to your local shop and ask for the most expensive system. I heard a professional speak on the radio and he suggested installing a loud siren for inside the cabin.
There are expensive systems, there are those with a nice app and many functions, there are many which drain your car battery fast...
Several years ago I bought GT06N security device for $30. It text me and then calls me (yeah I can hear what car thieves are talking about :-) when car shakes, it sends me GPS coordinates, it alarms (texts me) if battery is disconnected, it has internal battery which is enough for a week or so, it may disconnect a fuel pump at alarm condition or if I command so, it eats only 30mA of the current from the car battery, it consumes internet traffic of about 1-2Mb/month, etc etc...
Had a 2008 Outlander a while back and ended up putting in a Vivint system. Setting it up was pretty straightforward, and I liked being able to check the car from my phone if I forgot to lock it. One night, I got a notification about movement near the car, and I could see someone messing with the trunk—just tapped a button and it scared them off.
