I have a 7 and 2 year old. The 2 y.o. sits in a fairly wide car seat while my son, 7 sits in a booster seat. We are able to sit a third person in the middle row. However, my son has sat in the 3rd row if there are more people. He seems to fit it perfect.

I have the JANE intyplus which uses the isofix hooks to keep it in place. In the left seat i had topass the seatbelt backle through the isofix hole.
