Default Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Leaks - How Common Please?

Hi all,

I'm interested in buying a Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0 DI-D probably on an 09 plate or thereabouts. I have looked at various other cars such as Ford Kuga, Honda CRV, Nissan X-Trail, Subaru Forester and all of them seem to have some issue or other in varying degrees of regularity. I was just wondering how common the rear crank seal leak problem is with the Outlander. I would really like to have one but am nervous that I will be buying something which is likely to cost me in expensive repairs. Does anyone have any ideas if this is a regular issue or is it just the odd one now and again?

Thanks very much.

Regards,

Dave.

Crankshaft seal leakage is pretty normal. My subaru rear seal went out at 100k miles.

Honestly, there aren't too many Outlanders on these forums with the diesel. most here are 2.4L or 3.0L gasoline engines. If you go to the Outlander group page on facebook, there are a lot more diesel guys there...more of a global group than here. Most US based car review sites won't be reporting on the diesel either.

most of the problems I heard with the diesels had to do with the turbos and some sort of loss of power.
