Default CVT hesitates, after delay and surges forward at low speed

Hi,

I have got a MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER 2.4 2008 model CVT.

At the speed of 2-15 mph when rpm is below 1000 and I try to accelerate the car hesitates , waits for a second and then leaps forward with a jerk.

This situation happens everyday in city traffic when I nearing a turn I slow down the car and after the turn I accelerate.

Also I have noticed that if the car is moving above 15 miles an hour and i take my foot off the gas pedal then there is engine braking but as soon as the speedometer hits 15 mph the car jerks a little and runs free. I feel that the cvt belt then disengages itself and the car runs as a manual does in neutral gear.

CVT feels great to run but this jerk at low speed and then the jerk when reducing speed occurs takes the fun out of smooth drive.

I have a 2008 model run 32,000 miles, original fluid ( never changed).

All the experienced members please let me know if this is normal behavior and is there a way to reduce it.

Also the car rolls back a little when stopped in drive mode on a steep incline. The drive mode doesnt do anything to make the car go forward unless gas pedal is pressed.

Talking CVT Qurstion?

Question? When you go to give it gas and it gives this jerk, do you give it a lot of gas at that point? Because my Frist Cvt trans when I would come up to a stop sign and I wasn't completely stopped and then I gave it gas to fast I would have this clunk. So I found out that when I come up to a stop and I'm not completely stopped I slowly gave it the gas and I found out that it stopped as long as I slowly gave it gas. Or I came to a full stop then gave it gas , then it was fine.

It might be best to have it checked out at the Dealer. And see if something's wrong with it?

No , I dont give it too much gas.
I tried to give it too much gas once thinking that it might change the situation but it did not.

It feels as if the belt at this point comes off the cone and gets back at the cone with a surge.

Yeah you have low mileage So you shouldn't have that problem. You need to take to the Mitsubishi Dealer and have them ck it out. That doesn't sound wright. Yeah my new Ride my 2015 Outlander SE has the CVT so this is my Sec cvt.

Also have you ck the fluid in the Trans? It wouldn't hurt to have it changed.

Thats great its your 2nd cvt. which one did you have it before this car?

The dealership guy checked the tranny fluid and said its ok. I showed him that the car rolls back while in drive mode on steep incline. He said it doesn't look abnormal as it drives ok. This was the most senior mechanic in the dealership. I didn't feel very satisfied but I had no other option.

My other car I had was the 2014 Mirage. That I traded in for the 2015 Outlander SE. I loved that Mirage but it was to small for my wife and her service Dog who rides up front with her. Plus I owed 3,000 more then a new one was selling for plus I had a high interest rate. And NO one would refinance it to lower the interest rate. Because I owed to much on it. So I found a Great Dealership who made it all Possable to get into the Outlsnder SE. Question? Does your Outlander have the Hill Start Assist? That might be why it rolls back on you? Because all the new ones have that. I'm not sure when they started that .

It is great that you found a good dealer and lower interest rate on the Outlander.

Mine doesn't have hill assist- In 2008 that wasn't there but mine is 2wd/4wd. One thing I noticed that on the 4wd mode the jerk is quite less. Will replicate it tomorrow again!

Yeah I think that's the problem. In that few sec it allows it to roll back on u. Because mine is in Eco mode which is 2wd unless it needs 4wd
