Daytime running lights do not turn off 2006 Outlander
A couple weeks ago I noticed the headlights did not turn off very quickly after I got out of the car. It was early evening and still a little light outside. I glanced at the car a few times as I walked away from the car. The headlights turned off but it seemed to take a long time for them to turn off. I did not think anymore of this until last night (2 weeks late) My wife came home and mentioned the headlights are not turning off. We walked outside and yes the head lights were still on. I started trouble shooting and went through the Factory Service Manual flow chart and checked what I could quickly check.
1) door closed sense switches seem to work
2)head light switch seems to work. High beams work, turn signals, brake lights etc seem to work.
I ended up disconnecting the battery for the night.
This evening I tried On-Vehicle Service of the Smart Wiring System(SWS) Not Using SWS Monitor in section 54B-393 of the Factory Service Manual to return to initial state (Initialization of all functions). But I was unable to get it to reset.
Please help getting the headlights to turn off. I believe the name for the actual lights that stay on is Daytime running lights (DRL). As a last ditch effort late tonight I did pull the Front ECU relay and bent the leg of the Front ECU that seemed to correspond with the DRL relay so it would not make contact with the plug when the Front ECU relay was reinstalled.. This finally turned off the headlights.
Does anyone have any ideas about the part failure possibly of the relay? Does anyone have a picture of the inside of the Front ECU relay package?

p.s. I used to own a 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2.4 and have enjoyed working on the Outlander/Eclipse platform

Mine did this and it was the headlight relay. Mitsubishi used a special solid state relay to dim down the regular headlights but you can get a standard relay and replace it and run with your headlights on while driving and they'll turn off ok when you shut the car off.
