Default Downshift to 1st when coming to a stop

I just picked up my XLS last week and really like the Outtie a lot. I did notice a slight delay in the drive-by-wire throttle response even though mine has a build date beyond the TSB timeframe.

My question is, has anyone else experienced this. When you are coming to a stop(performing either a rolling stop or your say thelight changes) and you step on the gas pedal and there'sa sudden and unexpected surge of accelerationbecause you didn't expect it to go downshift into 1st gear.

I'm assuming this is because it's a 6-speed auto, but I would think it would hold second longer because of the gear ratios being closer. Maybe I'm just too used to my manual tranny.

Yes, I have experienced this as well, you almost feel like it dropped to neutral for a split second and than drops to first. It's a bit annoying.

Yep, it caught me off guard the first time and I almost spilled my coffee.

I'm glad it gives you the power you need if you make the mistake of entering the intersection before its safe and another car is coming, but if you're not ready for it...whiplash.

Have had no problems with unexpected downshifts. If you dont want it to, put into manual mode.... thats why you have it

tdford,
I didn't mean the downshift itself was the problem...its the fact it downshifted to such a low gear even though the Outtie was still in motion. I figured it would go to second gear until you came to a complete stop.

I guess i'll just have to get used to having 6-speeds.

Thanx

It has intuitive shifting and will learn your driving patterns the more you drive it. If you are a light footed driver it will learn to downshift less.

I used to have the hesitation issue. It has since been fixed by the TSB. And over time, I got to learn how to drive this vehicle without lunging it forward on turns and stops. 4WD Auto mode helps a lot especially when merging from a full stop. With all that v6 power, it's easy to overspin the front wheels in 2WD, especilly when you're making a left turn from a full stop in an intersection.

the best answer is for the marketing dim-bulbs to provide an option for a clutch. i don't care if some F1 cars have paddles; it's still an automatic trans and they can keep it....
