DRL to replace Fog kit?
here is the procedure to code the ETACS also the part number i listed for the switch has an auto featurethat is currently used in the 2008 Lancer.
btw this procedure puts theETACS in coding mode to add the auto function follow this procedure but substitute the fog switch for the auto switch.

I don't know if that is possible but what you could do is but the relay and switch so that you turn your DRL's on even when your headlights are on...
would anyone be interested (preferably local/pickup) on the light switch and maybe the relay? I purchased the switch and relay about 3 months ago and it's working great.. but now I bought the fog light kit and the kit comes with the switch and relay which I won't be using coz I already have them..... I'll be receiving the kit middle of next week.
thanks...
by the way I'm in SoCal (weekdays office hours I'm in Irvine and in the evening and weekends I'm in Rancho Cucamonga)

OK so this is an old post I am resurrecting and hopefully the posters are still active here. I have read and reread this post a few times and need some clarification so please bear with me.
I have an 07 XLS with HIDs. No fogs but DRLs. If memory serves me correct, the DRLs stay on when I put the HIDs on.
I am interested in changing out the bulbs so that fog lights are always on. I understand i will need to change the position of the lower watt bulb from bottom of housing to the back of the housing. In this case, all I need is the bulb and bulb socket as the wiring connector is the same. Correct?
Also, I will not have to reprogram ETACS as I am not adding stalk switch. correct?
Thank you in advance for your knowledge

joetiii, you may need to re-read this thread. If you have a '07 XLS with HID, like I do, then NO the DRL's turn off when you turn on the headlights. So you need to at least get the new switch and relay to have control over them. Changing out the bulb isnt going to do anything. If you want them to be brighter (cause the drl's are dimmer then standard fogs) then you will need to replace the entire drl/fog housing to the standard fog light one. It is a different housing that holds a higher watt bulb. And yes, a re-program of the ETACS will be needed after adding the relay and switch. Instructions are in this thread I believe. If not and I can send you them from my home computer.
Hope this helps

I just wanted to thank all the people in this forum & thread for the information provided to replace DRL’s with fog lights. I successfully installed fog lights into my son’s 2008 Outlander XLS. Following is a summary of what I did:
1) Ordered the fog light kit (Part# MZ380376EX, the stalk/switch in this kit does not have automatic lights)
2) Removed bumper & grill assemblies (I recommend having some additional/spare body retainers as many of the ones that I removed were broken & ready to fall out). I placed them on cardboard in my garage floor to prevent scratches.
3) Assembled the fog lights to the brackets (instructions come with the kit). NOTE: DO NOT USE POWER TOOLS WHEN ASSEMBLING THESE. Tighten parts with hand tools. One lesson learned by me is that the height adjustment screw retainer bracket can be easily broken even with hand tools…be careful not to over torque!
4) Removed DRL’s & DRL wiring harness from the bumper assembly.
5) Installed fog light assemblies per the instructions
6) Installed fog light wiring harness (the fog lights electrical connectors differ from the DRL’s)
7) Reinstalled bumper and grill assemblies
8) Removed steering column cover per jsrd’s 12-11-2008, 03:16 PM post’s picture (removed two screws, pried small cover just above the ignition switch with a small plastic putty knife and then pried the top and bottom halves apart.)
9) Removed the stalk/switch assembly by pressing on the two black retainer tabs on top and bottom of the stalk assembly and removed the electrical connector
10) Installed the new stalk/switch assembly
11) Programmed the ETAC per the instructions shown in mitsupartsman.com’s 12-08-2008, 08:10AM and klas’ 03-27-2009, 01:08 PM posting. I did have some difficulty getting this to work because I was trying to do everything to fast. In step 4) I learned that after confirming the buzzer, turn on and hold the fog lamp switch in the ON position until the buzzer sounds once (which takes about 3 seconds to occur) and the coding procedure will be completed.
Once installed, the fog lights function as both DRL’s as well as fog lights. The lights function like DRL’s and then when the headlights are turned on the lights turn off. You then turn the fog light switch on and the lights turn on.
An option exists to stop the DRL function if you do not want the lights to run like DRL’s. Just pull the DRL fuse (10A fuse in socket # 13). No errors or warnings appear, and the lights only function like fog lights. If this was previously in in this posting, I missed it. Sorry!...just something that I've figured out is an option.
It took me about 8 hours to complete. Granted, I had a lot of wasted time figuring out how to remove the bumper and grill assemblies as well as fix the fog light adjustment screw assembly that I over tightened and broke.
Thanks again to everyone that contributed to this posting. I would not have been able to do this without it!

Hey glad to hear it went well.
I've yet to do this mod yet. I had a hard time finding a kit for a decent price then I just stopped looking. HSKRZ, how much were you able to get the fog light kit for?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for "CODING PROCEDURE WITHOUT MTU-III" for DRL. I've got Outlander 2008 with fog lights and Auto switch. Is it possible to switch on DRL's? I installed fuse 13 for DRL's but still nothing. I suppose that I need to enable DRL function but I don't have MTU-III.
