Default RE: DVD in motion patch for NR261EM

ORIGINAL: HNK
How is it possible that in the most modern country of the world they sell navi's with 4 year old maps?
Simple, its a Japanese car companythat didnt pay the money to have current U.S. maps.

Dont get me wrong, I love my HDD Nav, but yes most American made cars (ford, general motors, etc.)that have navigation have current maps. BUT, they are DVD driven and you buy new discs every year.

I think it comes down to the MMCS. Mitsubishi has to buy the maps, then format it to a single disc that will copy information over to the MMCS. That process may be harder thenit seems. As a side note, if you have a DVD driven navigation in the U.S. you will have multiple discs for different parts of the country. Its not just on one single disc.

1. MMCS has 20G of space available for maps, so changing disks for different areas is not necessary. On a Dual Layer DVD the available space is enough to have 20G of compressed maps, so it could be sold on one DVD.

2. Map migration from NAVTEQ format to MMCS format should not take more than a week, once it has been done the first time (to be generous)

3. Maps can be made available on internet, using online payment to buy them and a serial to bind the installer to your MMCS (ex: VIN) before it is delivered to you (online) or a hardware key for DVD delivery (like now). You can buy the maps each year too.

Why MELCO liked the actual solution, is a mystery to me.

There is no clear answers, is there a dvd inmotion patch for this yet?
Loader: BLD-NR-261EM 1.09
Application 00.31.10

Also, can the new unit (40gb unit on 09's) play VCD and rip MP3's? My dealer said 08 and 09 were indentical exept for the difference in disksize. That was partly why I bought a 08...

Hi,
is there some solution for DVD in motion with 261EM CTR 1.10 (10.00.17 Appl.) ?

If is not possible via software, Is possible to apply a hardware modification to disconnect the gps wire only when I want to have DVD in motion ?

Thanks
