Engine Break-In
Just picked up my 08 Outlander XLS. The manual says that engine break-in is not critical like it used to be but take it easy for the first 500km(no hard driving, no long steady speed highway driving, etc). I'm supposed to be taking a small roadtrip next weekend that is about 450km one way. I will hit the 500km recommended mark before then. Any reasons for me not to do the trip? I asked the dealers' service department and low and behold they said highway driving would be the best thing for it. No one ever has the same answer or opinion so I figure if I follow Mitsubishi's recommendations I should be ok.....

RE: Engine Break-In
I know back in the day long highway easy diving was the way to go. Thats how I heard all oldchevy big orsmall blocks were done.I also had a motor built by a performance shop that has been in buisness for 29 years and theysaid I could take it out to the street and get right on it with no break in period. But I would listen to the book because they put it in there for a reason.

My biggest concern is the highway drive I have coming up. I'll probably stop every 150-200km(two stops) to have a smoke and let it cool down a bit. No rush to get there. Honestly, I'm more concerned about rocks hehe.

RE: Engine Break-In
I wouldn't worry to much about break-in. Just be gentle with it. My first 300kms were gentle highway driving to get it home from a distant dealer who had the best price. Works great and gives you an oportunity toplay withall the toys inside.

Sebba, I read that article prior to my post. So many mixed opinions. I wonder how much it really matters in the end.
klas - As far as I know, its all the same as the 07 except for Canada we actually get Satellite radio installed now. The door handles and roof racks are silver instead of body color now, which may have been silver in the US models already. Other than that, its identical as far as I can tell.
