All I can see to cover is the wire on the air filter, alternator, fuse box, ....? add to list?

Personally, I'ddo it by hand with lots of old towels.

IF you want to do it with water, cover anything you can find electrical and don't use high pressure.

The way I cleaned it was with some old towels. It worked really well and the engine looked very good.

I use a Kärcher pump with pressure controller nozzle and I do not cover anything, no problem until the moment. . .

Do not wet your engineif you want to clean it use old Clothes or towels
buy an Engine Degreaser or just wet the old clothes with water and USED GLOVES.

Wipe the engine not sprayit with water.

There are toxic chemicals on the engine if you are allergic to them. I recommend not to clean your engine I will ask someone elsedo it for you. A car wash will clean your engine but a little expensive.

Spraying water on theengine will get the Spark Plug wet and other parts that are sensitiveto water. If does happen you have to take those spark plug and wipe them.

The car will never start with Wet Plugs

The 2 posters did it by hand I will do the same. It is not so complicated just a little common sense which part of theengineto wet or not

PLEASE NEVER WET THE BATTERYJUST WIPE IT WITH DRY CLOTHES

Much has to do with the environments temperature. In Greece when we don't have low temperatures & specially in summer months, when we have 32-40+ dgr C, I use the same method as jsrd, taking care of sensitive areas like fuse box & electronic unit, the engine is dry again within 10 min. However during winter & cold places like Canada or places in the US water will not dry, it will stay in small pockets or even freeze and create big problems.

Yes true but the safest wayto clean your engine is just wiping it with anti-greaseor dump cloth.

If you use spray you still have to wipe the engine because there are still oil residue on the engine. Just like washing your car with water but without wiping it with cloth. You will still see dirt on the body.

This method (Kärcher pump) I have used it with my two previous cars without problems, having temperatures average of 35 °C, and single I use water, nothing of anti-grease; I am careful of not directing the nozzle towards the back part of the headlamps. . .
