Default FAST Key System

I have a question on the FAST key on a 2010 Outlander.
If the key is not in the car, how far can you drive? (This is good to know if someone tries to drive off with your car)

Is there an audible warning that can be set to go off if you drive away without the key?

It has happened a few times where I drop off my wife (with the key in the purse) and driven to a gas station and can't start the car. It would be nice if a warning chime would sound if you drive away from the key. I have seen the warning on the dash, but that is really of no use if you are paying attention to traffic. Luckily so far I have not been more than say 1/2 km away when this has happened.

Thanks,
Mark

You can drive as far as you can without stopping the engine. Virtually all cars with keyless entry behave that way.
It does produce an audible warning and starts beeping like crazy. I was putting air in the tires with a small/very loud compressor and heard it over that (had the key in pocket while walking around).
Likewise, it will indicate it on your dash. If you aren't paying attention to the dashboard while driving, then its time to change that habit and look at it.

Thanks for your response. Sounds like the dealer can change the setting so that the beep will sound.

BTW, I do constantly look at the gages while driving, just not when I drop off and go across the street to fill up gas, drop in a convenience store etc. It's not like I drive across town and find out I have no key.

Good to know as long as I don't turn the car off I can make it back to where the key is. Kind of stupid if someone jumps in your car and drives off when your standing outside with the key in the pocket. Can this also be changed so that the car will eventually shut down the engine?

Thanks,
Mark

I had the dealer look into this but have not heard back yet. They were unsure how the system works.

I have found out that the warning on the dash, and the chime, come on if you have the car in park, and then put it in gear to drive away without the key. If you have the car in drive, and someone walks away with the key, you don't get the chime/warning and can drive off.

I will need test to see if you can drive without the key (starting from park position) and how far you can go.

Anyone else try this?

Every time when I leave car with engine running I hear loud chimes, and there is "No key detected" on the display.

When started car can be driven until first engine stop. However, without key inside the car there is no way to switch from Off to Acc, to shift from Park and even to lock the car from outside.

Is your dealer Mitsubishi Thronhill, by any chance?

The dealer is in Richmond Hill.
I have heard the chime from the outside of the car when you get out of the car with the car engine running and the key in your pocket. As per my original post, I wish it would chime when the car is in gear and you drop off someone who had the key in there pocket/purse. Guess I'll have to work on my memory and make sure the key stays with the car! LOL

If you don't have the key from park position, then you CAN'T start the car!! But i think if your engine is still on, you still can shift to drive.

When the ACC is on, but not engine, I left the car, and it Chime loudly.

By the way, for the 2010 FAST key fob, i know each car has the unique code to program, but anyone happen to know what does these number means and if I have this key (maybe from 2008/2009 model), can I reprogram from a dealer and use it for my 2010 SE? thanks a lot

Holy crap this system is annoying. everyday I have to get my tool bag out if the rear cargo. The key stays in my pocket at all times. Ok, well I always start my car first to begin warming it up. Here's where it gets fun. I step out of the car and walk to the rear, grab the handle and the car just beeps at me. Uh, hello car, don't you sense the key in my pocket? I take the remote and press the UNLOCK button. What else could I possibly try? Upon doing this, the running vehicle locks me out, completely! The car locks out the person controlling the remote, how efficient. So now I have to pull out the physical key to get back into the vehicle which locked me out due to the fact I was trying to open the cargo door. Was I supposed to say a magic word?

How about this. Instead of pressing the remote button after I attempt to open the cargo door, I simply keep the drivers door open. I sit there and press the unlock button on the door, but the vehicle refuses to unlock any of the doors.

Who the heck designed this work of art system?

I just press unlock when I want to access the tailgate when the car is running. What yours is doing isn't how mine behaves, and sounds like you have some keyless gremlins.

I believe some FASTKEY features can be programmed by the dealer. (I had them change mine to unlock the doors when the car is shifted to park.) When I asked them to change this, they were not sure it was possible at first. I also wanted the doors to lock when you drive off but apparently this is not possible.
The car manual makes reference to a operators manual, which does not come with the car. I think the details of what can be programmed are in this manual. If someone has a copy, perhaps they can share the details. There may be a solution to your particular needs.
