driving home from work yesterday i decided to rool all my windows down and also kick open the sunroof for some nice relaxation, well i got home, parked my car rolled up all my windows, except the suroof. Well lets just say monsoons suck! i woke up to find i have about 2 inces of rain in my cup holders and my seats complelty soaked! i was wondering if anyone knows what i should do to help dry out the seats, and also what to do to prevent such a mistake from happening, like installing a rain sensor or something would be nice!

 

awwww that really sucks. that's why I don't miss a sunroof at all!
Mayby you can try using a strong hair dryer. if you don't keep it to close to the car seats that should help a bit.
I'm thinking direct sunlight should help a lot too, or perhaps strong UV-lamps to heat up the seats?

 

Ug! I never got that unlucky when I've left things open. I'd just hope for dry weather, leave all the doors open and setup as many fans as you can find to blow through the car. Keeping air moving in and out is the key. Turn off the interior lights too, so your battery doesn't burn out with the doors open (actually, it may have an auto-turnoff after some time period).

 

Get a steam cleaner vac and suck the water out as much as possible so your not trying to dry seats soaked with 20 gallons of water. I dont know if you can install a sensor but you should notice a 3 foot by 2 foot hole when getting out of the car. Im guessing sun roofs are new to you? I check mine everytime I get out just because its a habit. I even check the thing when its raining.

 

I would try to vacuum out the water as well. Then use rags/towels and just keep pushing them into the seats. This will help soak out even more water. Then open the windows (if it isn't raining again)
Don't forget to do the carpet too, because mold can grow if it doesn't get cleaned up, and that would make it even WORSE!

Yea your looking at a huge mold problem. You will never dry all the spots that were soaked. Maybe take out your seats and try to get the carpet really good. Get to every spot possible. Also make sure your wiring under the center console dries up.

 

Take it to a detailer that has a dehumidfier. They work exceptionally well, but may be costly.

 

What I would do is take the seats out...There are only 4 bolts holding each of them down..The bolt holes will drain the water to the ground...
Vacuum up the water in the rugs. Keep the doors open until all is dry with fans going all day...Invert the seats and let the sun dry the bottom of the cushions....otherwise you will have mold...

Agree. Get hold of an industrial grade dehumidifier, close the doors, and wait for all the moisture to be sucked out.

 

well thanks for all the quick replies, i have already used a dehumidifer and it did wonders! yet the leather seats are a little warped and water damaged i think its safe to say i wont have a mold problem. Sunroofs are too new to me...
