Galvanic Corrosion at Wheels?
 

Hi,
I just finished installing my mudguards and I noticed something when I took the rear wheel off. Does this look like galvanic corrosion to anyone else? I imagine that the wheels are Aluminum and I am also assuming that the studs that the lug nuts screw onto are steel. If the two touch you would get galvanic corrosion. Anyone else seen this or do you have any thoughts about it?

Is that a 2007 or 2008 Outlander?

I haven't had the pleasure of taking the wheels off my 08 yet ... I want to clean some of the rust out (if any) and put a protection plate in between...
However your photos seem like normal wear and tear to me, unless it is a new 08-09 model then something is totally wrong...

A 'smear' coating of Copperslip grease between the surfaces cured my problem. I would advise everyone to do the same before winter sets in!

With ref to comment re rotation of wheels,this is not a recommended procedure in Europe but I do swap front to back when signs of wear present themselves!

I had a bit of corrosion when I used chrome valve stem caps...I ended up spray painting some plastic caps aluminum colored. I agree with Ron, If you use metal..put some anti seize on them to prevent corrosion
