GPS Unit
Long time lurker, first time poster.
I don't know if anyone has thought about doing this.
But for everyone who doesn't have the MMSC NAV installed and has a Garmin, Tom Tom or any other GPS, here's a good place to put it.
I never liked putting GPS on the windshield. Since the Outlander's 12V port is all the way in the bottom, the power wire would run all the way down across the middle of the vehicle.
So I decided to use the center storage to hang my GARMIN.
I used adhesive to attach the disc on the inside of the pop up lid. I then used the suction cup to attach it to the GARMIN, much like you would on the windshield.
I was tired of seeing the cord run across the stereo, so I ran the wire up the glove box and bore a small hole on the Center Storage, to hide the wire.
here are some pics.

Not bad. that lid sticks up qauite a bit though. What if you cut the lid to have the unit come up from underneath? It look more like a custom job. If you messed up you could just buy a new lid. Just a thought
That is a creative place to put the GPS unit. Does the suction cup stay attached ok?
I have a Tom Tom for my other vehicle and like it on the windshield just below the rear view mirror, as it puts it where it is easy to see without blocking your view of the road. I am typically able to run it on the battery, since most of my trips are within a few hours of home, so the cord is not a problem 99% of the time.

it stays on pretty well...only fell once during the summer...when i parked the car outside near the beach. it's also very easy to hide, just take the gps off the ball socket joint put in the console and then close it. less likely for break in's, cuz we all know gps units and ipods are the new "car stereos" that teenagers will steal
This is a great place to mount a GPS. I have done the same thing with my GPS, but I mounted the base for the suction cup on the bottom (off towards the driver's side) of the center storage compartment. The lid option is a great idea. If I could have figured out a way to attach an external antenna, I would have mounted the GPS unit in the space on the center console below the ventilation controls. With text to speech you really don't need the unit in your line of sight.
