Just a thought here guys. You can get resistor/heating wire in bulk and create your own heated mirrors.

http://www.newportus.com/Products/Wire/NI80.htm

If the heater wiring is there already, you just need to epoxy/glue some of the heating wire to the back of the stock mirrors to get them to heat up and defrost. not sure what internal resistance of the original heaters is, but if you want to convert 2amps of current into heat on one mirror, you can buy50ft of theNI80-012-(â€*) guage wire for $10, thenepoxy 18 inches of the wire back and forth (or whatever pattern you want) on the rear of the mirror and you will have a 2amp heating element. You probably only need about 1 amp to thaw themirrors so 3 feet of wire will do that, being that the system runs at 12V. just wire it direct to the connector, if it's there. If not, you could runwiring to the rear defroster switch output and just use that. the wire just acts like a resistor in a circuit diagram, other than the fact that it was meant to heat up.

rsk135,
That sux! I agree that $150 is too much. It's aggravating that the '08 4WD's have that feature standard. There has to be some aftermarket manufacturer that makes heaters that will work. Let us know what you find out about the harness when you pop off your mirrors.

Does anyone know if there is a symbol (wavy lines) on the '08 4WD mirrors to indicate that it has mirror heaters?

No wavy lines on the mirrors on a 2008 4WD parked at Duluth (MN) Dodge/Mitsubishi.

I think that I would go with Universal elements. If I didn't already have heated mirrors.

rancho66,
Thanx for checking on the '08's. I have a late build '07 that has the 2008 7-spoke wheels, so i'm hoping they put them in mine.

And chenarm that's a great find if i don't have the heaters already. $40 bucks works for me. Has anyone confirmed that our mirrorsare pre-wired?

It's because the canadian XLS models like mine and yours got the heated mirror from the factory but in the US they did not on the 07 model

It depends on where you are, southern Outies don't have them, I have them so I can't directly answer the wirring question, And it's so cold these days, that I don't dare try to remove the mirrors to see what the wirring looks like, the platic is way to brittle.
The wirring diagram show that the wires going to each of the mirrors would be a pair of Black (ground) and Black/White (Positive). You may also wan to see if the fuse is there, it's #22 inside the car, your owners manual should show you where to find it.
if you don't see the wires inside the mirror assembly, I could try to guide you further on how it could be wirred.
On another note, the shop manualshows the wirring for a wiper deicer, You would think that if they would make this available anywhere that we would have them here in Canada, ?!?

Its interesting because since I moved to the south Ive actually needed the heated mirrors (which I dont have) more than when I lived in Clevelandbecause the mirrors fog up horribly in the morning where I live now.
