Default Hollowing out dummy accessory button?

Anyone ever try to hollow out the blank accessory buttons on a 2nd gen Outie?

I'm installing emergency strobes for my work with the fire dept, wiring and mounting those turned out to be the easy part. Hardest turns out to be trying to install a rocker switch in this damn thing!! This switch is the sturdiest most overengineered piece of plastic I've seen, better made than equipment on the ambulance!!

I managed to melt the inner reinforcements enough to get a small circular push button in one by just mashing around with a soldering iron, but the second switch is rectangular and will need both more room and more precision.

Do you have to use that particular switch?

At one point in time, I was looking to add fog lights. Mitsubishi never really changed the shape of their switches, so the fog light switch for an early '00s Mirage was the ticket. Never really did it...too busy/lack of ambition.

Eventually managed to get it cut out with a combination of the soldering iron, a utility knife, and plenty of patience. Ended up using the soldering iron to get the inner cross pieces out of the way, and the utility knife to cut the hole in the front. Just kept scoring the same lines over and over, snapped 2 blades in the process.

Glad it's done and there's lots of space to hide what is going to be a rat's nest of wires. Last steps are to identify a suitable place to ground the circuit to the frame and solder everything together.
