RE: Hood dents at Hinge Location (2007 XLS)
Ok so after seeing these posts and thinking you all are crazy guess what... yep, today after having the Outtie since May of 2007, I washed the car today and noticed 3 different dings in the hood. Mine are not creases, they are dings like if caused by hail or something.
Im someone that keeps track of stuff pretty good, and about 3 weeks ago I did a nice hand wash and dry, and these dings were not there!!!I mean unless rocks did this (there is no paint damage in the ding though) then I suspect there might be a defect as well.... I dont know though.
As a side note, I did just get back from the mountains 2 days ago, andthe vehicle did go through a temperature change from 30 deg to 75 deg within about 3 hrs. I dont think that this would cause it (the vehicle has been throught this many times) but just throwing it out there. I'll take some pics... not happy though.

I have an 07 with the same dent. My picture isn't that great but the dent is there. It has to be a mfg defect.

My early diamond white XLS 2008 has these same exact dents. At first, one little horizontal line that cut across the vertical seam of the hood (driver's side). Now there is another smaller one about an inch from the first. I'm a metalsmith and have checked the pivot points and locations of objects that may or may not be causing this. I agree with a previous post that this may simply be a defect in the manufacturing process and/or the weight of the hood is simply too much, thus we start getting little creases where the stress is trying to be relieved. I'll post my serial # in another post - hopefully we can get this resolved...

Dents at hinge locations
Just noticed the dents in the hood 2 days ago and it soured me to say the least. Not looking forward to respraying my hood (Diamond White tri stage). I thought the dents maght have been caused by the detailer at work leaning on my hood but after reading this thread I have different thought on this.
I work at a Mitsu dealership so I will try to find out some info on recalls or any type of cheap (free) fix to this problem. I am off for 2-3 days this week, but will start digging when I get back to work.
Is this only happening on the drivers side? Anyone got the same dents on the passenger side? Almost seems like the metal on the underhood skin is not thick enough at the hinge plates. Mitsu should redesign the hood and have a national recall. Just my opinion.
Thanks. Chris
