Ignition thingy
Hello all I have had my 04 Outlander for a year now and no one can tell me what this is. It is a small disc that is velcro d to the dash right next to the ignition. It is about the size of a quarter. It has a wire from it to somewhere under the dash. I've asked the dealer and called the 800 Mit number but no one seems to know what this thing is. Please help

RE: Ignition thingy
It might be one of those ignition kill units that require some type of transponder keychain to be passed over it before it allows the vehicle to start. Don't know why the dealership sales department would sell you one considering the Outlander already has the engine immobilizer. That's just my educated guess as to what it is.

RE: Ignition thingy
Well I was not charged for anything extra. I thought maybe it had something to do with the special keys Mit uses. I saw the same thing on another car but it was in adifferent place. It was under the dash more. Kind of where the tilt wheel is. ??? I'm puzzled.

RE: Ignition thingy
Sounds like a dealer instaled security- they use them on their used cars and try to sell you the "key" for it for a few hundred dollars. Did you buy the car new or used? My 04 Outlander does not have this, but on previous used cars I ran into this. If this is the case, it's not hurting anything being there.
