Default Increasing lower tailgate weight limit

I've wondering if it's possible to increase the amount of weight the lower tailgate can support by replacing the stock cables with stronger ones.

Is the 200kg weight limit imposed by the strength of the cables or by the cables and hinge combined?

I don't see why not, as long as what it attaches to is strong enough.

Probably a combination of both. The weight ratings are probably comservative, and it will probably support more than 200kg, but continued overload might cause a problem. (Look at some pick-up truck tailgates that are bowed out due to overloading)

Did some research and found that there are a number of aftermarket solutions for pickup trucks of all sizes; almost all of these are steel bars that lock the tailgate into a specific position.

And, of course, there's nothing ready-made for our Outlanders.

This feels like a future DIY project. Sort of a rainy day thing.

If or when I get around to it, I'll post details.
