Angry Keyless FOB reprogramming

Allright, so the girlfriend went to the dealer with the Outlander (2011 XLS - FAST key) to get an ebay-bought fob reprogrammed.

We bought the truck with a single key so a second one was necessary and I didn't see myself shelling out the 450$+tx for a new key. I got the key from a seller that said that the key was tested and fonctionnal, guaranteed to work. Used but in good condition.

So the dealer tried to reprogram it for 30 minutes and got back to my girlfriend saying that it can't be done as the key is either defective or it's been reprogrammed too many times and can't be anymore .... WTF !?!?!

Does a used key need to be flashed (or whatever) ? Is the dealer right in regards to the number of reprogramming ? Is the key locked ? Shouldn't the dealer be able to unlock it ... ?

The key could simply be faulty but I'm questioning the possibility to reprogram a used key.

Thanks

From what I've heard, FAST key cannot be reprogrammed second time, only standard type (with blade sticking out).

Weird, there are tons of used ones on ebay from 50 to 150$ and people don't seem to have problems. Wouldn't the dealer be aware of that ??

Thanks Vadimus

Forgot to add; there is this site that has tons of fobs ... All used.

But, they offer flashing services for this particular key

Try another battery... It might be bad or not sitting properly.

Did you change the battery because it wasn't working or did you change it because it had a low battery message?

If you slide the emergency key out and put the fob in backwards (square end in) and then turn the key while pushing the fob in it should start battery or not.
