first of all, i just bought the car 3 hours ago. i'll be lurking on this forum everyday at work now.

quick question. I want the lights to blink once and honk once when i lock my car with my keyless remote but i can't figure it out. I read the manual. Hold the lock button for 4-10 sec. then press unlock and then work on the sequence????

can someone explain in simple english for me?

It's in the manual, you hold SET+NAV or something along that line and the menu pops up.

To do it with the FAST key fob. (Probably the same with the regular key)

I just did it.

Ignition need to be at OFF
Headlight stalk need to be at off (not auto but OFF)
Driver door opened.

On the fob

press on the lock button (the lock will cycle) and while pressing count 5 seconds (5 steamboats) then while still holding on lock, press on unlock for about 4-5 seconds.

Release unlock first then lock the car will chirp once to confirm no horn confirmation.

Since you want the horn confirmation, you immediately redo the same sequence and the car will chirp twice to indicate the horn confirmation is on.

If you do it a third time you will get 4 chirps indicating you will have to press lock twice within one second to get horn confirmation.
This is the sequence the book is writing about.

The French version of the book is easier to read but say the same.

Reset your light stalk to auto if it was there before.
Get out (you need to do this from inside the car)
Try locking using the fob you shoulds get horn confirmation (I did)

Tried this method on my 2010 LS.

With the regular key, but couldn't get it to chirp.

I couldn't even get the lock to cycle as you said it should; I'm pretty sure there must be some discrepancies between the two locking systems (both keyless and regular key).

By the way my outlander is a Canadian model, XLS, 2010.

I have re-read the book for the regular key and they say the same as the FAST key. (page 3-11 in the English Canadian book)

Requirements
- Key out of ignition (car off)
- Driver door open. Sitting in the driver seat.
- headlight stalk at OFF

Notes
- On my first try it did not work but it began the cycle on the second try.
(I did the second try right after the first one)
- The system answer for a successful change is a computer beep (or 2) in the car.
- Make sure you wait at least 5-6 second before you press the unlock button.
- Make sure you release the unlock button first then the lock at least one second after.
- Also don't wait more then 10 seconds after the first press of the unlock button to complete the procedure.
- Basically "Work slow but regular"

Finally There is restriction in programming between the various market. For example Canadian market cannot add a new key by manually programming it in, we have to go to the dealer unlike the US market.

Righto mate, I'll give that a go tomorrow morning!

I'm in AUS, so I'm not particularly sure about programming differences.

Just a quick question; when you say it 'cycles', does that mean the locking mechanisms on all of the doors continue to try and re-lock themselves in succession?

Just one cycle.

You can heat the lock go "clunk" just one time.

See next post to answer the riddle.
