Default Lower Console space

I have a 2013 Outlander SE full size US .

I'm looking for room in the console area below the climate control **** and directly in front of the gear shift leaver. There is a small cup holder and 12v charger but behind this is about 5 inches or area. Is there anything behind this plastic area?

I would like to cut into the plastic for a legally concealed quick access storage.

If there are electronics or wires that connect the electronics above this console area, is there storage to the right of the gas pedal?

Attached is the picture of the area I'm referring to:

I've thought the same thing, great spot to conceal. I haven't taken the time to look around behind there yet. Best thing to do is just start pulling panels and see what you find. Keep us updated as I'd like to do the same thing.

Thank you for replying. Wasn't sure if someone took this request the wrong way. I'm LEO and everything is above board.

I thought someone might have done this before hand and could show me what they learned. I may just look for outlanders in the junkyard, see what's there or ask if I can purchase a console and see what's behind it. Then I'll have something to practice on before I start on my own vehicle.

I think that there are some sensors around that area airbag sensor?
