Default Main dipped & side lights always 'on' problem - 2014/15MY

Hi All,
I've just bought my first Mitsubishi Outlander UK GX3 July 2015 (not latest facelift) and have a query about the main headlights (both side and dipped) turning on and staying on as soon as I switch the ignition to the on or actually turn on the ignition regardless of the lamp switch(stalk) being set to off/auto/side/dipped. The daytime running lights I believe are the 2 small round ones at the bottom work correctly. So if for example on a sunny day I turn the lights to off or auto, all both headlamps are on; (the daytime running ones turn off if I switch the stalk to off). Can anyone tell me if this is a setting or is this likely a fault? I hope this makes sense.
Thanks in advance.

I had similar issue but managed to fix by disconnecting the battery then clamp both + and - leads together for 5 mins (this discharges any storage capacitors within the E.C.U's), reconnect battery and systems should reset to default.

I've got this problem, will I damage anything by clamping the battery leads together? Bit worried about doing this.

I had the same issue, headlights were just always on. I first tried replacing the headlight relay which didn’t work.
what did work was simply disconnecting the battery (disconnect negative terminal first, then positive terminal) and simply waited 45 minutes. This slowly discharged the capacitors and it fixed the issue. I wasn’t too keen to try clamping the positive to the negative to rapidly discharge, as I had concerns about damaging complicated components in today’s modern car, however simply disconnecting your car from the battery will cause any capacitors to slowly discharge anyway.

There is an issue with your ETACS (body control computer), and when it develops this fault the lights go into failsafe mode and stay on. There is a hotliine fix for this, and most i have seen have been replaced under warranty, even if the vehicle is out of warranty. But here in Australia the comsumer laws are tougher than most countries

Hi, I am looking to purchase a outlander that I believe has this ETACS fault.. for people who have had this issue did it continue to cause further problems with the ecu or remained stand alone with just lights remaining on? We generally drive with the lights on so wouldn’t bother me to much unless it constantly goes through globes. Our 2011 outlander hasn’t done a globe in the 6 years we have owned it. Looking to purchase tomorrow so any insight greatly appreciated.

cheers

You mentioned a hotline for this problem, do you have it? Having the same issue with my 2013 outlander and resetting the computer only makes it go away for 2 to 3 days. Really annoying. Cheers
