No It's not the new outlander it's a small size crossover called the ASX that look like the outlander but here in nort America they will call it the outlander sport for some weird reason as it's way small and not the same thing at all ! You can read more about it here

Here is the review of the already out in Japan Mitsubishi RVR which will be called ASX in Europe and Outlander Sport in USA: http://www.trucktrend.com/roadtests/...ive/index.html

I just don't understand why do they have to have 3 totally different names for different markets, isn't that kind of a waste of money on branding/marketing of what is essentially the same car? Anyway, from the review, this looks to be a promising car, now if they could only put the Lancer Ralliart engine in it, that would be a very tempting vehicle to get.

this car looks very similar to Honda CRV. Anyways the 3 names are quite confusing, and yeah you're right its quite expensive in terms of branding and marketing, the case is similar with TCL, its tcl in asia, thompson in europe.

PMinAU, thanks for the links. Based upon the comparasion of the ASX/RVR/Outlander Sport to today's Outlander the Sport is about 13.8 inches shorter (end to end) than the Outlander, has a height that is 2.6 inches shorter than today's Outlander, and has about 6/10 of an inch less ground clearance, however both the Outlander and the Sport have the same wheelbase. Weight wise the ASX/RVR/Sport is about 3,000 pounds. By comparasion my 08 Outlander ES 2WD has a weight of 3395 pounds.

Default Conversion

Thanks for the US conversions, azjake Yes, it has the same wheelbase but is quite a bit shorter. Not sure what that will mean for handling.

I'm guessing the 13+ inches shorter will result in less legroom on the 2nd row seats and less storage area in the back cargo area.

If the suspension is set up properly, handling should be pretty good. The one picture of the engine bay doesn't show a strut tower bar like the current Outlander has, but that could be added easily as an aftermarket.
