Default New owner ...confused

I have a 2015 PHEV. I always thought that hybrid cars used battery for driving below 30 mph and used petrol for speeds above this and charged the battery , but i'm totally confused with the Outlander . It has ECO Mode (but no explanation of what it is in the owners manual). It has a battery save button and a battery charge button but I am unsure when to use these as the manual is not too clear. I will mainly be doing Urban miles and only occasional motorway (freeway). I am charging my battery using my home electricituy in a socket whilst I wait for a dedicated charging socket to be installed . The first time I did it the charge reading showed 28 miles , the second and third times it was 17 and 20 miles after 24 hours of charge ....is this normal. Thanks for taking the time to help!
