Default Not safe

I recently purchased a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander and I have noticed that when you leave the vehicle with your keys in your pocket the car will not shut off. While the manufacturer included this feature for the convenience of the driver this is not fully researched. Taking into account those owners that have attached garages this could be fatal if they walk away without turning the car off. This could generate a lot of lawsuits for the manufacturer The car must be modified so it will turn off when the key moves away.

The same would happen if you forget to turn the key and remove it on an old fashion car.

Too many apple fanboy IMHO they expect an "APPS for that".

In the past you where responsible for your action, today it has to be someone else fault if I am stupid.

Even Lexus doesn't shut off itself when you walk away with the keyfob

I imagine there are more problems if it does shut off the car.
Imagine if keyfob battery is getting low or malfunctioning one day and your car just shut off while you are driving.
You need finite amount of energy (battery) to power the keyfob, so it is not unreasonable that the fob will eventually fail.

What they SHOULD do instead is allow you to lock the car with the FASTkey FOB after starting it and then walk away. It sucks not being able to safely start my car on chilly mornings w/o having to leave my car unlocked or dig out my keys, undo the fob, then reassemble after unlocking door. And the $599 remote start is not a viable option, either.

P.S. My local dealer is doing FASTkey remote starts, legit OEM equipment, for $349 installed right now. I'm getting one tomorrow morning!

There's no need to leave the fob. Just go start the car and walk back into the house with the fob in your pocket. A theif can still drive away with the car, but at least they won't have your car key (and potentially your house key!). The car will stay running without the fob in it.
